Auddie’s Old Fashioned

If you have ever come over to our place (Tina & Auddie), there is a 99% chance you have been offered an Old Fashioned. Let me think back to how this began. One stormy night, when there was nothing to drink in site – JK. It started because an Old Fashioned is the best cocktail out there, plain and simple.
First, you have to first start with really good bourbon. Our favorite is Bulleit Bourbon. We also like to have homemade simple syrup always on hand, which is really easy to make, the recipe is below. Then you need some bitters (perhaps Angostura Bitters), an orange peel, Maraschino (or Luxardo) cherries and some cool ice. Now you are set up for success.
There have been many times where people have said, “I tried an Old Fashioned, but it was not as good as yours.” People, they don’t call him ALL-DAY, AUD-DAY for nothing. Part of his secret is a heavy hand with the bourbon and nontraditionally shaking it up in a cocktail shaker before pouring into the glass.
Alright already, what are you waiting for? Get your weekend vibes started with Auddie’s Old Fashioned.

Instructions
Auddie's Old Fashioned
- In an Old Fashioned glass, place one large ice cube in the center of the cup. Then take the orange peel and tear it slightly in the middle of the peel to release the juices. Place peel on one side of the ice cube in your glass. Next take a cherry and gently press it together between your index and thumb finger to also release the juices. Place the cherry on the other side of the ice cube.
- In a cocktail shaker add a few small ice cubes, bourbon, simple syrup, cherry juice (if using). Shake up a few times until chilled.
- Pour over the ice in your Old Fashioned glass. A hefty drink and your weekend made is all about to be yours. Enjoy!
Simple Syrup
- In a small sauce pan over medium heat combine water and sugar. Mix occasionally. Turn off heat once sugar has fully dissolved and your syrup is clear.
- Pour into mason jar or other storage preference. Allow to cool before use. Stores in fridge for up to 1 month.
